Tsehai loves learning Covid Emergency Response

Challenge
When schools across Ethiopia closed to help contain COVID-19, up to 26 million school children were no longer attending school and out of these in-school literacy has been suspended for over million Ethiopian primary school students.
Solution
Using previously developed literacy-focused multimedia education materials in Amharic, we adapted the contents into 6 additional local languages including Afan Oromo, Somali, Tigrigna, Sidamo Afo, Hadiyisa, and Wolayita. A total of 1,120 Television and Radio episodes as well as associated PSAs production have been produced and broadcasted on 25 national, regional, and community television and radio channels. This program helped mitigate the impact of suspended school-based learning through Tsehai Loves Learning radio and TV-based educational content in local languages and enabled children to achieve their end-of-year school competencies.
Results
An estimated number of 10,000,000 primary school children were reached with this broadcast over one year period.
