What is Tsehai Loves Learning?

Tsehai Loves Learning is an educational television show for pre-school & kindergarten aged children. Tsehai Loves Learning fosters the development
of Ethiopia’s children through content based on over 35 years of research into early childhood educational TV. The educational objectives of Tsehai
Loves Learning span five areas of childhood development, namely:

Educational Standards:

Whiz Kids Workshop spent months investigating how best to educate young children through television and the educational objectives for early childhood
development. As a result, episodes of Tsehai Loves Learning are improved through a growing list of production guidelines catered specifically to an audience
between 3 and 6 years of age.

Every episode of Tsehai Loves Learning goes through field tests meant to determine if the children are in fact learning the objectives of the episode. Whiz Kids
Workshop employs a time-tested research method called the “Distracter Test” through which we can determine what parts of the show the children
understand and what parts they do not, accurate to within seven seconds.
|
|
The “Distracter Test” is based on research which indicates that children within our target age group don’t watch TV when they are entertained, but when they
understand. The children are shown an episode of Tsehai Loves Learning on one TV, while a slide-show is presented on another attempting to distract the
child’s attention. The total percentage of children watching or distracted at a given time is then charted out to show where the children understand the lesson,
and where they don’t understand.

This method of evaluation helps Whiz Kids Workshop determine where changes need to be made to each episode, and also helps us further develop the
standards and guidelines used to improve the effectiveness of subsequent episodes.

We strive to achieve many of the benefits which research indicates have been achieved by other Early Childhood Development (ECD) television programs in
other countries. Research shows that the benefits of ECD television are long lasting. One follow up study, tracking regular viewers of ECD television 10
years later in life showed better language scores than non-viewers, better math scores, better science scores, more books read for pleasure, and a higher
motivation to achieve.
